Dia 25 e 26 de Janeiro

Trio Initiatives

Jean-Christophe Cholet – piano; Gildas Boclé – contrabaixo; Quentin Cholet – bateria

Concerto a partir das 22h30 (2º set às 00h). 10€ para não sócios, entrada gratuita para sócios.

In this new trio, Jean-Christophe Cholet meets (again) Gildas Boclé (cb) and Quentin Cholet (dr). Clearly willing to explore a new path for his music, the pianist chooses here to lead his creation to a more modernist artistic line, influenced by this intergenerational encounter.

The three musicians have known each other for quite a while. Jean-Christophe was very much looking forward to making concrete his collaboration with Gildas and to joining it to the complicity that links him to Quentin.

They are given the opportunity to exchange their musics and to create their own sound combining tradition, collective and InitiativeS. And also the opportunity for Jean-Christophe Cholet’s now well identified compositional lines to cross the Berlin cultural influence.

More than just a rhythm section accompanying a pianist, it’s a real commitment to three. Written compositions and improvised moments will find a balance and leave a genuine space for expression open to each one.

Jean-Christophe Cholet is one of the most unusual French personalities in the field of improvised music. Qualified at the Schola Cantorum in 1985 in piano, harmony, descant and fugue. Besides his solid classical training he also practices jazz and has been composing from a very young age. Having trained with Kenny Barron, Richie Beirach, Bill Dobbins and even Lee Konitz, he takes part in projects with jazz greats Charlie Mariano, Matthias Rüegg, Matthieu Michel… Eager to share the music he likes with a great number of people, owner of  CA du Jazz (certificate for teaching Jazz), he is also a valuable teacher to amateur musicians both in explaining his music and in introducing them to improvisation (Master -classes in Marciac, Wien, Luzern, Lugano…) His discography counts more than 20 albums, most of them as a leader.

Gildas Boclé has been travelling the world for more than 30 years. He has lived in the United States and played in Japan, Europe and South America with Al Cohn, Dizzy Gillespie, Clark Terry, Michael Brecker, Dave Liebman, Peter Erskine, Pat Metheny, Joe Pass, Kenny Wheeler, Jerry Bergonzi, Diana Krall,  Kenny Barron, Chris Potter…. Besides working as a musician composer, Gildas is also a photographer for American label Criss Cross and a video maker (+ than 140 covers). He creates and produces video clips for Manu Katché, Aldo Romano, les Gipsy Kings, Raphael, “making of’ for S.Eicher….
With 21 years, Quentin Cholet is a member of the new generation of French musicians. Immersed in the world of music since his younger age, he began drumming at 11. After spending some time in Paris in the courses of Malo Vallois, Ianik Tallet and Stéphane Payen, he enters “Jazz Institut of Berlin” in John Hollenbeck’s course. In the past years, he has performed or worked with: Bojan Zulfikarpacic, Linley Marthe, Baptiste Herbin, Geoffroy De Masure, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Greg Cohen, Jean-Christophe Cholet, François Thuillier, Marcel Papaux, Ramon Lopez…
