Biografia– Michael Lauren
Nascido em Nova Iorque (n.1950), Michael Lauren começou a tocar bateria aos 8 anos de idade. A sua competência artística atravessa as fronteiras do jazz, funk, blues, rock e músicas do mundo. Obteve um B.A. (Bachelor of Arts) na Johns Hopkins University e frequentou Peabody Conservatory e Berklee College of Music. É membro fundador da escola de música de renome internacional Drummers Collective NYC, onde leccionou mais de 25 anos.
Presentemente é Professor Adjunto de Bateria na Escola Superior de Música e Artes Espectáculo (Instituto Politécnico do Porto), tendo sido Coordenador do Departamento de Jazz na mesma escola entre 2005-2010 e 2015-2017. É o primeiro professor a receber o título de Especialista em jazz em Portugal e é também o fundador e director da International Drum Academy em Lisboa.
Ambos os álbuns de Michael Lauren All Stars, “Once Upon A Time In Portugal” e “Old School Fresh Jazz”, foram considerados como um dos dez Melhores Álbuns Nacionais (Arte Sonora) dos anos de 2016 e 2018, respectivamente.
Actuou com Paul Anka, Chuck Berry, Charles Brown, Tom Jones, Tom Harrell, Rick Margitza, Bob Mintzer, Milt Hinton, Bob Stewart, Dena DeRose, Jerry Jemmott, Kenny Davern, Bill Frisell, Mike Stern, Silje Nergaard, Bobby Radcliff, Robert Kraft, Don Sebesky, Darlene Love, Cornelius Bumpus, Ted Curson, Teo Macero, Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos, Jorge Costa Pinto Big Band, Orquestra Jazz Algarve, Quinteto Mario Santos, The Postcard Brass Band, Hugo Alves Quartet, 2 Tubas & Friends e muitos outros.
Biography Michael Lauren
Born in New York, b.1950). Michael began playing drums at the age of 8. His artistry fuses the boundries of jazz, funk, blues, rock and world muisic.He obtained his B.A. from Johns Hopkins Universtiy and attended The Peabody Conservatory and Berklee College of Music. He is a founding member of the world renowned Drummers Collective NYC, where he taught for over twenty-five years.
Michael is currently Professor Adjunto of Drum Set Studies and was head of the Jazz Department (2005-2010, 2015-2017) at the Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espectáculo (ESMAE) in Porto, Portugal. He is the first professor to receive the Title of Specialist in jazz in Portugal and is also the founder and artistic director of The International Drum Academy, Lisbon, Portugal.
Both of the the albums of The Michael Lauren All Stars, “Once Upon A Time In Portugal” and “Old School / Fresh Jazz” were chosen as one of the ten Best National Albums (Portugal) of 2016 and 2018 respectively.
