Two weeks ago, Canada’s pro-oil government took control of the Arctic Council – an international forum meant to ensure the health and sustainability of Arctic waters, and the only existing body governing the region.
Stop Big Oil from destroying this fragile environment: tell Canada to ban drilling in the Arctic.
For me, the Arctic evokes a sense of wonder – communities sustained by the land and ocean, with stunning tundra, snow and ice; incredible creatures like narwhals, polar bears and arctic owls.
Oil giants are trying to impose their dangerous drilling agenda, putting the home of people and wildlife at greater risk from oil spills than ever before. Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper has the power to protect Arctic life by preventing Arctic oil spills before they start.
Tell Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper that people and wildlife are more precious than oil.
Harper has been tearing up environmental legislation and accelerating oil production at any cost and Canadian officials have already said they’re going to use the Arctic Council to give big oil more say over the Arctic. We have a message for them: “Say no to Arctic oil drilling.”
Already, 50,000 people around the world have stood up to big oil and told Stephen Harper to do the right thing – let’s make it 100,000! Sign now to protect the Arctic from oil spills.
As oil companies circle the Arctic, time is running out. That’s why we must act quickly — before it’s too late.
Sincerely,
Christy Ferguson
