Submissions for the 10th edition of MOTELX – Lisbon International Horror Film Festival close on 15 June

Between 6 and 11 September, one of the city’s most charismatic cultural events is back. With each edition, fans and enthusiasts of horror film await impatiently for the discovery of the best films of the year, emerging talents, and the most unexpected surprised. In last edition, during six intense days, more than 18,000 people filled the rooms of Cinema São Jorge and the other Festival venues. Past guests include names as George A. Romero, Stuart Gordon, John Landis, Eli Roth, Brian Yuzna, Dario Argento, Hideo Nakata, Tobe Hooper, among others.

This year, we introduce a competitive section dedicated to European feature films: MOTELX Award – Best European Horror Feature Film.

The stimulus to the production of horror film in Portugal continues to be one of the Festival’s main objectives and the MOTELX Award – Best Portuguese Horror Short Film is still the highest money award given to short films in Portugal: €5,000.

The winners of both awards earn a nomination for the international competition Méliès d’Or, organized annually by the European Fantastic Film Festivals Federation (EFFFF), a tightly knit network of 22 film festivals from 16 countries – of which MOTELX is the Portuguese representative -, with a global attendance of more than 450 000 visitors, an unique platform for the communication and promotion of genre films around the world.

Features and short films produced between 2014 and 2016.
No submission fee.
Deadline: 15 June.

SECTIONS AND AWARDS: Room Service (Main Official Section dedicated to feature films); MOTELX Award – Best European Horror Feature Film; Doc Horror (Documentaries about horror films or related themes); Retrospectives (Masters of horror or lesser-know cult figures); Special Screenings (Anniversaries, restored prints, TV series); Lost Room (A journey into the history of Portuguese genre film); MOTELX Award – Best Portuguese Horror Short Film; International Shorts (Short films not produced in Portugal or Portuguese ones out of competition); Big Bad Wolf (Special programme for younger audiences).
